PRESIDENT'S LETTER

On Behalf of All Music Creators

Fall is upon us and with it the signs of a changing season. We are also in the midst of a political season that may bring change of a different kind. Whoever wins control of Congress in November, ASCAP's agenda remains clear. We will continue to work with lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle in Washington to help protect our members' livelihoods. Bi-partisan support is essential to our efforts and we are fortunate to have lawmakers in both parties who understand the value of music and the importance of strong copyright protection. But we need the support of more members of Congress, and to that end, we will continue to focus on the chairs of committees and other influential leaders to ensure strong advocacy on behalf of all music creators.

There is something else we are doing on behalf of all music creators, and that is to provide you with a new forum to come together as a community to focus on the craft and business of music creation. I was pleased recently to announce the launch of the 2007 ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO (see story on page 12). Our first-ever EXPO - the only national conference dedicated to songwriting and composing - held earlier this year in Los Angeles, was a tremendous success for all who participated. Next year's EXPO is sure to be even better, with new panelists and panels, more opportunities to learn valuable skills and develop your craft, and a real chance to interact with fellow songwriters and composers at all stages of their careers.

Registration for the EXPO is now open. I urge you to make your plans now as the 2006 EXPO sold-out quickly. If this year's event was any indication, the 2007 EXPO promises to be an unforgettable and truly rewarding experience.

My best,
