ASCAP Television Licensing

Television Licensing administrates the license agreements with ASCAP's 1,200 local television station customers, as well as the ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and Univision networks. We have also just introduced blanket and per program agreements for the LPTV industry.

Our local station customers can be licensed under a blanket or a per program license. Both license types provide full and complete access to ASCAP's ever-growing repertory. The choice of license is made by the station.

ASCAP AND TMLC AGREEMENT

The last blanket and per program license agreements for commercial television stations negotiated between ASCAP and the TMLC were for the license term April 1, 1998 through December 31, 2009. ASCAP and the TMLC are currently engaged in discussions to determine new license fees and terms for the period beginning January 1, 2010. In connection with those discussions, ASCAP and the TMLC have agreed to extend the terms of the prior agreements for the interim license period beginning January 1, 2010 and continuing at least through December 31, 2011.

If your station was licensed prior to December 31, 2009, in order to remain licensed for the interim license period beginning after that date, you should now either join the other stations represented by the TMLC; sign the 2010 ASCAP Television Station License Extension Agreement; or make your own application for a license alone or with others. Operators of new stations, or stations sold on or after January 1, 2010, may also be represented by the TMLC in the pending negotiations (or court proceeding if the negotiations fail to produce new agreements); or may execute interim license extension agreements that contain the same terms as the expired license agreement, and provide for payment of interim license fees, subject to retroactive adjustment, on the same basis as will be applicable for TMLC stations. For additional information or forms please call us at (800) 99-ASCAP.
